REQUIREMENTS
Your plants prefer full sun, be sure to place in an area that receives 6 or more hours of direct sunlight per day. Plant Starts can go in the ground after your first frost date, which is typically around May 15th for our growing zone 5a/b.
Prepare your soil: remove any debris and loosen the soil, add compost if needed.
Plants can be spaced anywhere from 3 to 6 inches apart.
Your plants will require about 1 inch of water per week. Keep an eye out for droopy or dried leaves. Don't over water. If you notice leaves turning yellow, you may be watering them too much.
To encourage more blooms per plant, you'll want to pinch the top 2-3 inches off your seedlings once they reach 8-12 inches tall. Fun Fact: You can take that pinched top and place it in some soil (I suggest a seed tray or seed pot filled with potting soil, or any unused takeout food container will do) and it will eventually root, doubling the amount of plants for free!
Once your plants start producing blooms you'll want to cut frequently to encourage continued blooms throughout the growing season.
Some plants such as Cosmos and Dahlias may require staking as they mature to prevent their long stems from flopping over.
Enjoy all summer long!
